How to configure a Factbird DUO to use the PLC cables

SUMMARY

Use this guide to configure a Factbird DUO sensor for use with Factbird PLC cables. Correct sensor configuration ensures the DUO interprets the PLC signal correctly and records production counts accurately.

WHEN TO USE THIS

Use this guide if:

  • You have connected a Factbird PLC cable to a Factbird DUO.
  • You are collecting production data directly from a PLC.
  • You need to configure a new PLC-connected sensor.

PREREQUISITES

Before starting:

  • The Factbird DUO has been installed and is online.
  • The PLC cable has been connected to the PLC output.
  • The sensor is visible in Factbird.
  • You have permission to edit sensor settings.

STEPS

  1. Open the sensor settings
    • Open the production line that contains the sensor.
    • Select the Sensors tab.
    • Locate the sensor connected to the PLC cable.
    • Click the Settings icon.
  2. Configure the sensor type
    • Under Basic Information, set Sensor Type to Counter Accumulate.
  3. Configure the wiring type
    • Open the Sensor Setup section.
    • Set Type of Wiring to NPN.
    • Click Update Sensor Configuration.
    • Wait for the configuration to be applied to the device.

EXPECTED RESULT

After completing these steps:

  • The sensor is configured to receive signals from the Factbird PLC cable.
  • The DUO correctly interprets the PLC signal using NPN wiring.
  • Production counts can be recorded from the PLC output.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Issue:The sensor is not recording production counts.

  • Try: Verify that Sensor Type is set to Counter Accumulate.

  • Try: Confirm that Type of Wiring is set to NPN.
  • Try: Check that the PLC cable is connected to a valid 24 V output signal that changes state for each produced part.

Issue: The configuration does not take effect.

  • Try: Click Update Sensor Configuration after making changes.

  • Try: Wait for the DUO to apply the new configuration before testing again.

STILL NEED HELP?

Contact Support and include:

  • The Factbird DUO serial number.
