How to add a sensor to a PLC device (Kepware)

SUMMARY

Use this guide to add a sensor to a PLC device in Factbird after Kepware has been configured. The sensor must be linked to the correct Kepware tag to ensure data is received successfully.

WHEN TO USE THIS

  • Use this guide if:
    • Kepware has already been configured and connected.
    • You need to add a new sensor to a PLC device in Factbird.
    • You have followed the instructions as per: Setting up Kepware

PREREQUISITES

  • Before starting:
    • A PLC device has been created in Factbird.
    • Kepware is configured and sending tag data.
    • You have access to the Administration section in Factbird.

STEPS

  1. Navigate to AdministrationDevices.
  2. Search for and select the PLC device.
  3. Click + ADD SENSOR.
  4. Enter the sensor information.
  5. Copy the tag name from Kepware.
  6. Paste the tag name into the Tag name field in Factbird.
  7. Save the sensor configuration.

EXPECTED RESULT

  • After completing these steps:
    • The sensor is added to the selected PLC device.
    • The sensor is linked to the corresponding Kepware tag.
    • Data from Kepware can be received by Factbird through the sensor.

TROUBLESHOOTING

  • Issue: The sensor is not receiving data.
    • Try: Verify that the tag name in Factbird exactly matches the tag name in Kepware.
    • Try: Copy and paste the tag name directly from Kepware to avoid typing errors.
       
  • Issue: Event messages cannot be sent from Kepware.
    • Try: Confirm whether a separate event topic has been configured.
    • Try: Contact Support to create a secondary ID for event messaging.
