Receive push notifications on maintenance calls

It is now possible to receive push notifications for Andon calls on iPhone or Android phones. Receiving push notifications requires both configuring the Andon system and the individual phones. The following is a guide to set up push notifications for Andon calls.

Connect your workers to the Factbird accounts

Push notifications are sent to specific users and will only be shown on phones where that user is logged in. In order to do this, we need to connect the Andon workers to Factbird accounts.

  • Go to the Workers tab on the Andon page
  • For each worker that you want to send push notifications to, click to “edit” that worker. When the “Edit worker” dialog appears, you should see that there is a “Technician” dropdown. Choose the account that belongs to that worker.
  • Make sure that there is an SMS escalation in the selected role. Currently, push notifications are sent at the same time as SMS messages (this may be changed in the future).

Save Factbird as a home-screen app

⚠️ NOTE: On iPhone, this step is mandatory, but on Android phones, you can receive push notifications directly through your browser. However, we recommend that you save the website as an app on Android as well.

Each phone that should receive push notifications needs to have Factbird installed as a “home screen app”, which is a website that is added to the phone’s home screen like a normal mobile app.

iPhone

  • Open the Factbird application in Safari
  • Click the “share” icon (in the bottom center) and select “Add to home screen”. Factbird should now be added as an app on your home screen.

Android

  • Open the Factbird application in Google Chrome
  • Click the “settings” (upper right corner) and select “Install app”. Factbird should now be added as an app on your home screen.

Accept push notifications from the home-screen app

In the Factbird app, you must log in as the account that corresponds to a worker (configured in step 1).

When you open the Factbird app and go to the Andon page for the first time, you will be prompted to allow push notifications. Click “Receive push notifications”.

If you accidentally close the dialog, you can make it appear again, by clicking your e-mail in the top of the navigation drawer to the left.
