How to Connect and Mount a Factbird EDGE Device

Use this guide to connect a Factbird EDGE device, attach peripherals such as USB cameras, connect it to the internet, and mount it on a production line.

 

WHEN TO USE THIS

  • Use this guide if:

    • You are installing a new Factbird EDGE device

    • You need to connect cameras or other peripherals to Factbird EDGE

    • You need to connect the EDGE device to your network

    • You are mounting the EDGE device on a production line
       

PREREQUISITES

  • Before starting:

    • Factbird EDGE device

    • Power supply unit for the EDGE device

    • Peripheral devices (e.g., USB cameras)

    • Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi access

    • Access to your company Wi-Fi network password (if using Wi-Fi)

    • Production line location prepared for mounting
       

STEPS

  1. Connect the antennas to the Factbird EDGE device.

  2. Connect the power supply unit to the Factbird EDGE device.

  3. Connect peripheral devices (such as USB cameras) to the peripheral Ethernet ports on the EDGE device.

  4. Plug the power supply into an electrical outlet.



     

  5. Confirm the power button turns green.

Connect the EDGE device to the internet using one of the following methods:



Option A — Using Ethernet

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable to the EDGE device’s Ethernet port for network connection. Ensure the cable is connected to the correct network port.

     

    Option B — Using Wi-Fi

    1. Wait about one minute after powering the device.

    2. On a smartphone, computer, or tablet, search for a Wi-Fi hotspot named:
      Factbird_EDGE-xxxxx

    3. Connect to the hotspot.

    4. When prompted, select your company Wi-Fi network and enter the Wi-Fi password.

    5. Wait 1–2 minutes for the internet connection to establish.

    6. Confirm the LED indicator status:

      • Blinking LED = No internet connection

      • Solid LED = Internet connection established



         

    7. Mount the Factbird EDGE device and connected peripherals at the production line.

    8. Place the EDGE device where it receives a good Wi-Fi or cellular signal (if applicable).



       

    EXPECTED RESULT

    After completing these steps:

    • The Factbird EDGE device is powered on

    • Peripheral devices are connected

    • The EDGE device is connected to the internet

    • The LED indicator shows a solid light

    • The device is mounted and ready for production use

       

    TROUBLESHOOTING

     

    Issue: LED indicator is blinking

    • Try: Check that the Ethernet cable is connected to the correct network port

    • Try: Verify the Wi-Fi network and password were entered correctly
       

    Issue: Cannot find the Factbird_EDGE Wi-Fi hotspot

    • Try: Wait at least one minute after powering the device

    • Try: Restart the EDGE device
       

    Issue: Device cannot connect to company network

    • Try: Confirm the network allows new devices

    • Try: Contact your IT department to whitelist the device if a firewall blocks connections

     

    Note: THE EDGE currently does not support cellular and does not include a cellular modem
