Setting up your Factbird device to use Wi-Fi is fast and easy. Below are the guidelines and minimum requirements to start using your Wi-Fi network with a compatible Factbird device.
Use a non-critical network (recommended)
The Factbird DUO is a secure device that does not run an operating system, making it very resilient to cyber attacks, but we always recommend using a non-business-critical network for connecting our devices.
Requirements
For information about the supported Wi-Fi channels, protocols etc., please refer to the datasheet of your product. Datasheets can be found here: Factbird documentation
Firewalls and whitelisting of devices
- A firewall may prevent the Factbird device from getting internet access. If you have a firewall set up on your Wi-Fi network with e.g. MAC filtering enabled, please ensure that the MAC address of the Factbird device you wish to connect is added to the “allowlist” or “whitelist” of your network. The MAC address can be found on the device label (Factbird DUO) or by submitting a request to Factbird support here (Factbird View).
- Once added to the whitelist, the Factbird device can be set up to connect to your Wi-Fi using the steps (Factbird View) .
- More information about whitelisting domains and ports when using your own network can be found in Whitelist domains & Ports.
Setup (Factbird View)
Prepare the Device
- Make sure the device is visible to your account and powered on. The device will now create a temporary Wi-Fi network.
Connect to the Temporary Wi-Fi network
- On your mobile phone, tablet, or computer, go to the Wi-Fi settings.
- Connect to the Wi-Fi network created by the Factbird View (Factbird-View-<device-ID>).
- A sign-in page opens automatically once you connect to the Factbird View’s Wi-Fi.
- On the sign-in page, choose the SSID of the network you want the device to connect to.
- Enter the passphrase of the network you want the device to connect to.
- Press the “Connect” button on the sign-in page.
- Now the Factbird View will connect to the specified network and disable its temporary Wi-Fi.
❓ If you wish to connect to a different network than the network you have already configured on the Factbird View, the device must be turned on at a location where the configured Wi-Fi is not available. Once the device cannot connect to the configured network, it will create its own temporary Wi-Fi network again, enabling you to change the settings to a new network.Troubleshooting
- If the device fails to connect, double-check that the Wi-Fi password and SSID were entered correctly. Pay attention to uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, special characters, and whitespaces.
- Verify that you are within the range of the Wi-Fi network. Moving closer to the router can help establish a stronger connection.
