Start batches automatically using a barcode scanner

How does it work

You have a Factbird barcode scanner installed on your production line.

Then the barcode scanner sends the 13-digit barcode of the product running online to the Factbird application/cloud. This product barcode is the main identifier for the product. If this product does not already exist in the Factbird application, it creates a new product and fills the name attribute for a product with a received barcode, and it also sets the PRODUCT_BARCODE attribute under Product Parameters, on the manage products page. You can always change the name of the product from the Factbird application, under the manage product page, whenever you want. Once the product is created and found in the system, it goes to the next step. Here, it stops the previously running batch and starts a new batch for the current product.

How to Configure

Go to the “BATCHES” page, click on “+”, and go to “Manage products”.

Click the edit icon of the product you want to associate a barcode with.

Click “+ ADD PARAMETER” and fill in the field with the following information:

KeyValue
PRODUCT_BARCODE<<barcode value>>

If you have not created a product, you can create a product from “ + ADD PRODUCT” on the “Manage products” page.

Once the barcode scanner sequentially detects three identical barcodes, the Factbird system automatically starts a batch with that product while ending the previous batch. If the barcode scanner detects a barcode not assigned to any product in Factbird, the system will automatically create a new product with that barcode, assign default values to the product, and immediately start a batch with this new product.
