Update Factbird DUO firmware version

Summary: Use this guide to update the firmware on a Factbird DUO device to ensure it runs the latest version with improved performance, bug fixes, and new features.

When to Use This

Use this guide if:
  • A new firmware version has been released (It's always best to be on the latest version)

  • Your DUO device is experiencing unexpected issues

  • You are performing routine maintenance

  • You are preparing devices before rolling out new features

Prerequisites

Before starting:
  • Ensure the DUO device has a stable network connection

  • Schedule the update outside production hours (approximately 10 minutes of data loss may occur & the update itself could take longer than that.)

  • Confirm the device appears in the Devices list in the Factbird application

Steps

  1. Open the device overview

    1. Go to Administration

    2. Select the Devices tab

    3. Search for the DUO device

    4. Click the device to open the Device Overview

  2. Start the firmware update

    1. Click Update Firmware in the upper-left corner of the page

    2. Review the confirmation message

    3. Click Confirm to start the update

  3. Monitor the update

    1. Watch the progress indicator in the application

    2. On the device, the LED will blink magenta while the firmware downloads

  4. Wait for the device to reboot

    1. When the progress reaches 100%, the DUO will automatically reboot

    2. Data collection will resume after the reboot

  5. Confirm the firmware version

    1. After the device reconnects, refresh the Device Overview

    2. Verify that the new firmware version is displayed

Note:
Devices running firmware versions older than 3.9.1 will update in two stages:

  • First to 3.9.1

  • Then to the latest version

You only need to press Update Firmware once. The application queues both updates automatically.

Expected Result

After completing these steps:
  • The DUO device runs the latest firmware version

  • The device reboots and resumes data collection

  • The updated firmware version appears in the Device Overview

  • The LED on the device is a solid blue or green color (dependent upon Wi-Fi or cellular connection)

Troubleshooting

  • Issue: Update Firmware button is greyed out

    • Try confirming the device is online and connected

    • Try refreshing the device overview page

    • Contact support if the device is an older model (as these cannot update through the application)

  • Issue: Firmware update appears stuck

    • Wait several minutes to confirm the update has not resumed

    • Check the device LED indicator and network connection

    • Refresh the device page to confirm progress

Still Need Help?
