SUMMARY
Use this guide to understand what the LED indicators on the Factbird DUO mean so you can quickly interpret device status, connectivity, and sensor activity.
WHAT THIS IS
Factbird DUO LED indicators are visual signals on the device that communicate its current state. Each LED uses specific colours and patterns to show whether the DUO is powered, connected to the network, receiving sensor data, or experiencing an issue.
These indicators allow users to assess device status at a glance without needing to access the system interface.
WHY IT MATTERS
The LED indicators provide immediate feedback on whether the DUO is functioning correctly. This helps users quickly identify normal operation, detect connectivity problems, or recognise when sensor data is not being received.
Understanding these signals reduces downtime by making it easier to interpret device behaviour directly on the factory floor.
WHEN YOU WOULD USE THIS
Use this when:
- You want to confirm that the DUO is online and working
- You need to understand what the device is doing without logging into the system
- You are checking whether sensors are sending data to the DUO
- You notice unexpected LED behaviour and want to interpret it
HOW IT WORKS
The DUO uses multiple LEDs to represent different system functions:
- The Status LED reflects overall device health and connectivity
- The Input Port LEDs show whether signals from connected sensors are being received
- The WiFi LED indicates the state of the wireless connection
Each LED communicates meaning through:
- Colour (e.g., green, red, blue, orange)
- Pattern (e.g., steady, blinking, fast blinking)
| LED | Colour / Pattern | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Status LED | Green (steady) | The DUO is powered on | ✅ No action needed - unless no data is coming in |
| Status LED | Green (blinking) | The DUO is starting up or completing its setup process. | ⏳ Wait a short moment – it should turn solid green |
| Status LED | Red (blinking) | The DUO has encountered an error and cannot connect properly. | 🔄 Power‑cycle the DUO. If the red blinking continues, contact Factbird Support |
| Input Port LEDs | Orange (fast blinking) | The DUO is correctly receiving signals from the connected sensor. | ✅ No action needed |
| Input Port LEDs | Off or not blinking | No signal is being received on this input. | 🔌 Check sensor wiring and power |
| Status LED | Orange / light green (steady) | The WiFi module is powered and ready to be configured. | ✅ Continue with WiFi setup |
| Status LED | Blue | The DUO is connected to WiFi. | ✅ No action needed |
| Status LED | Off | The WiFi module is not running or did not start correctly. | 🔄 Power‑cycle the DUO? /Manual reset |
KEY TERMS / COMPONENTS
Status LED:
- The main indicator showing overall device state, including startup, connectivity, and errors
Input Port LEDs:
- Indicators linked to each sensor input, showing whether signals are being detected
WiFi LED:
- Indicator showing the status of the DUO’s WiFi connection
Steady Light:
- A constant light that indicates a stable state
Blinking Light:
- A repeating on/off pattern that indicates activity, transition, or an issue
COMMON MISUNDERSTANDINGS
- Blinking always means a problem
- Some blinking states (such as startup or sensor activity) are normal and expected
- Some blinking states (such as startup or sensor activity) are normal and expected
- No light always means failure
- An off LED may simply indicate that a feature (like WiFi) is not in use
- An off LED may simply indicate that a feature (like WiFi) is not in use
- All green lights mean everything is working
- Green typically indicates normal operation, but sensor activity is shown separately through input LEDs
- Green typically indicates normal operation, but sensor activity is shown separately through input LEDs
- Sensor data can be confirmed from the Status LED alone
- Sensor activity is only visible through the Input Port LEDs, not the Status LED
