How to get an API Token

SUMMARY

Use this guide to create a new API token in Factbird so external systems, integrations, or scripts can securely access your account.

WHEN TO USE THIS

  • Use this guide if:

    • You need to connect Factbird to an external integration or service

    • You need an authentication token for API access

PREREQUISITES

  • Before starting:

    • You must be a default super user

    • You must have access to the Administration page

STEPS

  1. Open the Administration page
    Log in to your Factbird account and navigate to the Administration page.

  2. Open System settings
    In the top-right navigation of the Administration page, click System.

  3. Select API Tokens
    Click API Tokens to open the token management page.

  4. Create a new token
    Click New.

  5. Enter token details

    • Enter a Token Name

    • Select the User the token will belong to

    • Choose an Expiration date or select No expiration

  6. Generate the token
    Click Generate.

  7. Copy the token
    Copy the generated API token and store it securely. This is the only time the full token will be visible.

  8. Finish
    Click Done.

EXPECTED RESULT

  • After completing these steps:

    • A new API token is created and linked to the selected user

    • The token appears in the API Tokens list

    • The token can be used for authenticated API requests

TROUBLESHOOTING

  • Issue: You cannot find the Administration page

    • Try: Confirm your account has administrator permissions

    • Try: Contact a system administrator or colleague with admin access

  • Issue: The API token was not saved or copied

    • Try: Create a new API token, as previously generated tokens cannot be viewed again

    • Try: Store tokens in a secure password manager or vault
