What is rollover threshold and rollover value and what should they be set to?

Rollover value: This is solely based on the device that does the counting. Rollover value is defined as the maximum number that can be counted (by the hardware).

  • Example: The Factbird DUO has an internal 16 bit counter. The maximum number it can count is therefore 2^16 = 65536. Rollover value must be set to 65536.

Rollover threshold: This depends on the speed of the line and the rate at which you sample. Rollover threshold is defined by the maximum number that can be counted within one sample (at the maximum/validated speed).

  • Example: Line validated speed = 100 pcs. pr. minute, sample rate = every 5th second. 100/(60/5) = 8.33 pcs. pr. sample. Rollover threshold must at minimum be set to 8.33. We recommend that you double the calculated value to get a good threshold, so in this case around 16.
