Performance Analytics Basics

In the previous lesson, we introduced how to capture data. In this lesson, we'll focus on how to use performance analytics to drive better decision-making.

Driving better decision making typically requires following these tasks:

  • Looking at performance KPI's for previous performance to get a baseline
  • Set performance targets
  • Understand the reasons contributing to missed performance targets

KPI's

Production insights provides a number of standard KPI's out of the box. KPI's are configurable and can be toggled on/off. Use the time selector to view the KPI's within the timeframe relevant to you to understand your past performance until now. Establish a baseline by familiarizing yourself with daily or weekly performance. Use the trends tab to view how the KPI's are evolving over time.

  • Produced
  • Downtime
  • Value-Adding Time while Manned
  • Average Produced per Hour
  • Cycle Time
  • Speed While Manned
  • Speed While Producing
  • Produced in the Current Batch
  • Estimated time of Completion

Downtime Analytics

When the performance reality is not hitting the expectation, we need to understand the reasons behind the performance gap. This is done by analyzing the downtime of the machine using stop registration. Stop registration is a simple but effective way of annotating downtime periods with reasons (Stop causes). The Factbird Production Insights application automatically detects when a machine is stopped based on the machine output counted by the sensor. The user interface allows either the user or the machine to register the stop cause. Stop causes can further be grouped into OEE categories for OEE analytics.
