How to Set Up the Factbird® DUO with a Digital Sensor

SUMMARY

Use this guide to correctly install and validate your Factbird® DUO with a digital sensor so you can ensure reliable connectivity and accurate production data collection.

WHEN TO USE THIS

Use this guide if:

  • You are installing a new Factbird® DUO device
  • You need to connect and configure a digital sensor
  • You want to verify that your device is collecting data correctly

PREREQUISITES

Before starting:

  • You have a Factbird® DUO device
  • You have a digital sensor and sensor cable
  • You have access to a power supply and socket on-site

STEPS

1. Connect the Power Supply

  • Plug the power supply unit into the Factbird® DUO
  • Plug the other end into a standard power socket

The DUO should now be powered on

2. Connect the Sensor

  • Plug one end of the sensor cable into the DUO
  • Plug the other end into the digital sensor

 You should now have:

  • Power connected to the DUO
  • Sensor connected via cable

3. Position the Hardware Correctly

DUO Placement

  • Do NOT place the DUO:
    • Inside metal cabinets
    • Underneath large machinery
    • Between large metal objects

These can block signal and cause the device to go offline

Sensor Placement

  • Place the sensor:
    • Where it only detects the intended product
    • Where there is minimal interference
  • Avoid placing it:
    • Near areas where hands frequently pass
    • Near unrelated moving objects
    • In positions affected during cleaning

4. Check DUO Connectivity

  • Look at the status LED on the DUO:
    • Solid Green → Connected via mobile network
    • Solid Blue → Connected via WiFi

A solid light means the device is online

5. Validate Sensor Data

  • Ensure nothing is passing the sensor
  • Pass an object (e.g., your hand) in front of the sensor

You should see:

  • An orange light on the DUO
  • An orange light on the sensor

Each detection should trigger both lights

6. Confirm Successful Setup

Verify that:

  • The DUO shows a solid status light (green or blue)
  • The sensor triggers orange lights when detecting movement

This confirms:

  • The DUO is online
  • The sensor is detecting and sending data correctly

EXPECTED RESULT

After completing these steps:

  • The DUO is powered and connected to the network
  • The sensor is correctly installed and detecting events
  • Data is being successfully transmitted

TROUBLESHOOTING

Issue: No status light on DUO

  • Try: Checking the power supply connection
  • Try: Verifying the power socket is working

Issue: DUO goes offline or has no signal

  • Try: Repositioning the DUO away from metal obstructions
  • Try: Moving it to a more open location

Issue: Sensor not triggering

  • Try: Checking cable connections
  • Try: Adjusting sensor placement or settings

Issue: Inconsistent or incorrect counts

  • Try: Reducing environmental interference
  • Try: Repositioning the sensor to only detect intended products
