How to create a new user in Factbird

SUMMARY:

Use this guide to create a new user in the Factbird system and assign them to the appropriate access groups. This allows administrators to manage user accounts and control access to sensors, lines, and other system data.

 

 

WHEN TO USE THIS

  • Use this guide if:

    • You need to create a new user account in Factbird

    • You need to grant system access to a new employee or operator

    • You need to create a user with a placeholder or non-deliverable email address

       

PREREQUISITES

  • Before starting:

    • You have Administrator privileges in Factbird

    • You know which access groups the user should belong to

    • You have an unused email address available for the initial user setup

       

STEPS

  1. Open Administration in the Factbird system.

  2. Select Users.

  3. Click Create new user.

  4. Enter the user’s name and an email address that has not previously been used in Factbird.

  5. Assign the user to the appropriate access groups.

  6. Save the new user.
     

To activate the user account

  1. Log out of your current account.

  2. Open the Welcome email sent to the new user.

  3. Click the link in the email and set a password for the account.

  4. Log back in using your normal administrator account.
     

Optional: Change the email to a non-deliverable address

  1. Go to Administration → Users.

  2. Locate the newly created user in the list.

  3. Edit the user and change the email address to the desired address (for example: line1@factbird.com).

  4. Save the changes.

 

EXPECTED RESULT

  • After completing these steps:

    • The new user appears in the Users list

    • The user can log in with their email and password

    • The user has access to the groups and permissions assigned during setup
       

TROUBLESHOOTING

  • Issue: The email address is already in use

    • Try: Use plus-addressing (for example: admin+temporary@factbird.com).

    • Try: Use a different email address that has not been used in Factbird.
       

  • Issue: The user did not receive the Welcome email

    • Try: Check the spam or junk folder.

    • Try: Confirm the email address was entered correctly.
       

  • Issue: User cannot see sensors or lines

    • Try: Verify the user is assigned to the correct access groups.

    • Try: Confirm the groups have permission to view the relevant sensors or lines.
