Setting up your Factbird device to use Wi-Fi is fast and easy. Below are the guidelines and minimum requirements to start using your Wi-Fi network with a compatible Factbird device as well as a tutorial video with easy-to-follow steps:
Use a non critical network (recommended)
The Factbird DUO is a secure device that does not run an operating system, making it very resilient to cyber attacks, but we always recommend to use a non business critical network for connecting our devices.
Requirements
For information about the supported Wi-Fi channels, protocols etc. please refer to the datasheet of your product. Datasheets can be found here: Factbird documentation
Firewalls and whitelisting of devices
- A firewall may prevent the Factbird device from getting internet access. If you have a firewall set up on your Wi-Fi network with e.g. MAC filtering enabled, please ensure that the MAC address of the Factbird device you wish to connect is added to the “allowlist” or “whitelist” of your network. The MAC address can be found on the device label (Factbird DUO) or by submitting a request to Factbird support here (Factbird DUO).
- Once added to the whitelist, the Factbird device can be set up to connect to your Wi-Fi using the steps in the Setup (Factbird DUO) or Setup (Factbird View) .
- More information about whitelisting domains and ports when using your own network can be found in Whitelist domains & Ports.
Setup (Factbird DUO)
Prepare the Device
- Make sure the device is claimed and visible to your account, powered on, and in range of a cellular network. The device must connect to the cellular network (this is the default setting) for the Wi-Fi settings to be applied to the device.
Find the Wi-Fi Settings
- Log into cloud.factbird.com with a super user.
- Navigate to the “DEVICES” list, search for the device you want to set up, and click it to see the device-specific information.
- Under “Device Config,” click the Wi-Fi tab, enable Wi-Fi, and press “ADD CONNECTION”.
❓ If you do not see a Wi-Fi tab in the device configuration area, your device may not be capable of using Wi-Fi. Please submit a request to support if this is the case.
Connect to the Wi-Fi Network
- Type in the network name (SSID) of the Wi-Fi network you want to connect to.
- Type in the password of that Wi-Fi network.
- Press “SAVE” and let the device establish connection to your Wi-Fi before restarting the device.
Confirm Connection
- Once connected, the status LED on the device turns blue.
- Check the connection by opening the live view of any of the connected sensors (from the sensors tab in the device configuration) and confirm that data is coming in.
Troubleshooting
- If the device fails to connect, double-check that the Wi-Fi password and SSID was entered correctly. Pay attention to uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, special characters, and whitespaces.
- Verify that you are within the range of the Wi-Fi network. Moving closer to the router can help establish a stronger connection.
